What is a mobile attendance app, and how is LekhaHR's different?
A mobile attendance app lets employees check in and out from a phone, usually with a location or photo check to confirm the punch is genuine. Most write the whole story for the employer. LekhaHR's mobile punch is part of its attendance management system, and it draws a clear line for the employee too: location is read once at the tap, an audit selfie is optional and private, and nothing is sampled in the background.
GPS attendance punch, step by step
See exactly what one mobile punch captures.
Tap through a check-in. Each step shows the fields the phone records at that instant, and the panel on the right lists what is never collected. This is the employee view most attendance apps never show you.
GPS attendance privacy boundary
Location evidence at the punch—not throughout the day.
LekhaHR can capture location when an employee checks in or out and validate the configured office geofence. It does not track movement in the background, build travel routes or monitor employees between punches.
No background movement, route, distance or continuous monitoring history.
Two audiences, one honest page
Set up as an employer, or use it as an employee.
The same mobile punch answers a different question for each side. Here is what each one gets.
For the employer
- Draw the office geofenceSave a site by latitude, longitude and a radius from 50 m to 2,000 m. The in-range decision is computed on the server from the reported coordinate, not asserted by the phone, so the check itself can't be flipped from the client. Verifying that coordinate against fake-GPS apps is a separate, planned control.
- Decide what a punch capturesTurn punch-time location and optional random-audit selfies on or off per capture scheme. A selfie stays optional even when requested, so a punch is never blocked at the door.
- Handle out-of-fence and remote workField and remote staff raise a remote clock-in request that routes to an approver. Nothing is lost to an error screen, and the reason travels with the request.
- Review by exception, not by rowRisky samples, low-accuracy fixes and missing selfies coalesce into a single manager day-review. You open the exceptions instead of inspecting every clean day.
For the employee
- Punch from the mobile browserOpen LekhaHR on your phone or install it to the home screen, then tap check-in and check-out. There is no store download and no separate app to keep updated.
- Know what each tap recordsThe punch simulator above shows every field. Location is read once at the tap and never again, so nothing runs in the background between punches.
- Your selfie stays privateWhen an audit asks for one, it is stored privately, bound to that single punch and deleted after 30 days. Your approving manager can open it for that review; a manager from another team, or anyone browsing by their title, cannot.
- A weak signal will not lose your punchIf the network drops, the punch is queued on your device and retries on its own. You always see whether it is queued, synced or needs review.
The questions nobody answers for you
Battery, watching and your selfie, answered plainly.
Will it drain my battery?
No. Because there is no background GPS and no continuous tracking, there is no background battery cost to run. Location is read once, at the punch, the same way a map reads it when you open it. Close the tab and nothing keeps running.
Is it watching me after hours?
No. LekhaHR reads a coordinate only at the check-in or check-out tap. It does not build a route, measure distance, or sample where you are between punches or once your shift ends. You can grant location as 'while using the app' or 'only this time'; it never needs the 'always' permission.
Where does my selfie go?
Into private storage with no public link, tied to that one punch, and deleted after 30 days. The manager who approves your punches can open it for that review; a manager from another team, or anyone browsing by title, cannot. There is no face-recognition database.
Visible sync state
A weak network should create a visible state—not a vanished punch.
LekhaHR distinguishes a device-held operation from a confirmed server record. It does not promise that every mobile operating system will run background work after the app is closed.
- QueuedThe operation remains on the device with the same identifier.
- SyncedThe server confirms the authoritative punch.
- Needs reviewA conflict stays visible instead of being silently double-counted.
The honest posture
What we do and do not claim about mobile punches.
Every line on this page maps to shipped attendance scope. Here is where the honesty matters most.
- Battery is genuinely safeThere is no background GPS to burn power. Location is read once, at the punch, and then nothing runs.
- Mock-location is not blocked yetFake-GPS detection is planned, not shipped. Today the accuracy is stored and risky samples plus the optional selfie route to a manager day-review.
- It is a PWA, not a store appYou install it to the home screen from the browser. There is no App Store or Play Store listing, and we do not imply one.
- No biometric or face pipelineNo ADMS device push, no continuous face matching. An optional audit selfie is evidence, not identity verification.
Employee attendance software scope
The everyday attendance jobs, connected.
Capture time, apply the correct rule, resolve exceptions and retain the source behind every decision.
One-tap mobile punch
Explicit check-in and check-out from any mobile browser, with an optimistic confirmation and the authoritative status back from the server in seconds.
Server-side geofence
Admin-configured site coordinates and a 50 m to 2,000 m radius, validated on the server as in-range, outside-fence or low-accuracy.
Punch-time location only
A single coordinate read at the tap, kept as evidence, with no background sampling and no travel history between punches.
Optional random-audit selfie
A private, single-use photo requested only by the capture scheme's random audit, bound to one punch and auto-deleted after 30 days.
Resilient offline queue
A device-held operation with a stable id that retries on reconnect and shows queued, synced or needs-review, never a vanished or double-counted punch.
Remote clock-in requests
An out-of-fence punch routes to an approver as a request rather than failing, so field and remote work has a clean path.
Private evidence access
Location and selfie are readable only by the owner, the assigned approver or audited HR; ordinary managers never receive raw evidence by title.

Mobile attendance FAQ
What employees and admins ask before rolling out a punch app.
Can employees punch attendance from a mobile phone?
Yes. LekhaHR supports an explicit one-tap mobile punch for check-in and check-out. A configured capture scheme can add punch-time location and an optional selfie at the tap. Public availability of the mobile punch remains subject to the Attendance release gate.
Is LekhaHR a mobile app I download from the Play Store or App Store?
No, and we will not pretend otherwise. LekhaHR mobile attendance is a responsive web app that you open in your phone's browser or install to the home screen. There is no native store listing today, so there is nothing to download, update or rate in an app store.
Does the app track my location all day?
No. LekhaHR can capture location when an employee checks in or out and validate the configured office geofence. It does not track movement in the background, build travel routes or monitor employees between punches. Location is sampled only at the check-in or check-out tap.
Will the attendance app drain my battery?
No. Because there is no background GPS and no continuous tracking, there is no background battery cost. Location is read once at the punch, the same way a map app reads it when you open it, so closing the tab stops all activity.
Does it use face recognition?
No. There is no face-verification or face-matching pipeline today. When the capture scheme's random audit selects a punch, you may add an optional selfie that is stored privately and used as evidence, not as a login or an identity check.
What if someone uses a fake-GPS or mock-location app?
Automatic mock-location blocking is planned, not shipped, so we do not claim it. Instead, a punch is never silently trusted or discarded: the coordinate accuracy is stored, and together with the optional random-audit selfie it can feed a single manager day-review. The verification posture is honest about what runs today.
Can I punch when I'm offline or on a weak network?
Yes. The punch is queued on your device with a stable operation id and retries on reconnect, shown as queued, synced or needs-review, so it is never lost or double-counted. The honest limit: guaranteed background sync after the app is fully closed is not promised on every phone.
What happens if I'm outside the office geofence?
The punch still records. When you are outside the fence, LekhaHR offers a remote clock-in request that routes to your approver instead of showing a dead-end error, so field visits and remote work have a clean path.
Who can see my location and selfie?
The manager who approves your punches can open an audit selfie as part of that review, along with you and separately authorised, audited HR. What cannot happen is a manager from another team, or anyone browsing by their title, pulling your location or selfie. Selfies auto-delete after 30 days, because the design keeps evidence to the punch instant rather than holding it.
Can managers see who is in, late or on the field right now?
Yes. A Team Today view lists who has punched, who is late and whose day needs review, with exceptions first. Managers act on the flagged rows rather than reading every clean day.
